Why a quick recorder matters
Most song ideas disappear before they get written down. The melody you hummed in the shower, the chord sequence you played before remembering you had to leave — if you didn't record it, it's gone. The gap between "I had a great idea" and "I can't remember exactly how it went" is usually less than an hour.
Voice memos work, but they're often buried in a phone app alongside everything else. Having a recorder that's already open in the same tab as your writing tools removes one more friction point. The recording is there when you need it, and you can download it immediately while you still remember what it was for.
It doesn't need to sound good. The point isn't a demo — it's a memory aid. Even a rough, slightly off-pitch hum is enough to reconstruct the idea later.
Is the recording saved to WriteHook's servers?
No. Everything is processed locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. Nothing is uploaded. Download the file to your device if you want to keep it — it disappears if you close the tab.
What format does it record in?
WebM audio, which is supported by all modern browsers. If you need an MP3 or WAV, open the WebM file in any audio editor (Audacity is free) and export in your preferred format.
Can I use this with an external microphone?
Yes — any microphone connected to your computer will be available. If you have multiple inputs, your browser will use whichever is set as the default in your system settings.
Is there a recording length limit?
No hard limit. Recording long sessions may use significant browser memory. For anything over a few minutes, a dedicated recording app will be more reliable.
